EVENTS - 2006
Pulse will include on-site installations and performances by the following artists:
Isidro Blasco, Courtesy of DCKT Contemporary and PULSE
Blasco's photographs of urban interiors and exteriors will reveal a succession of connected spaces. Through a series of images mounted on elaborate wooden supports, the artist creates sculptural environments that appear to be in the process of unfolding.
John Bjerklie, previewed at PULSE
Brooklyn artist John Bjerklie will present a performance that allows him to take his practice out of the studio, while simultaneously closing himself inside his studio. Bjerklie will install a hidden "micro-studio," complete with camera and microphone, and will "broadcast" to an audience situated close by, watching the artist's antics on a screen.
Cassandra C. Jones, Courtesy of Nathan Larramendy Gallery and PULSE
Jones' installation consists of wallpaper ornately composed of found snapshots of cheerleaders performing routine stunts that flaunt their briefs, suggesting a conflict between "family values" and pornography.
Anthony Patti, Courtesy of Virgil de Voldere Gallery and PULSE
Born to Run, an installation carved out of muscle-car hoods and oversized parts that illustrates the beauty and erotic qualities specific to performance vehicles complemented with the bliss of amusement rides.
Milton Rosa-Ortiz, previewed at PULSE
That's Not Art!, an abstract sculpture made of suspended bullet casings inspired by Marcel Duchamp's Fountain.
Kenichi Yokono, previewed at PULSE
Japanese artist Yokono's meticulously carved woodblocks detailed with bright red paint that present dramatic manga-like images illustrating Yokono's views of urban living, which he calls "the horror of daily life."
